|Title:||Antiferromagnetic Ordering Of Divalent Eu In Eu3ir4sn13 Intermetallic Compound|
|Abstract:||We report a systematic study of the electronic and magnetic properties of Eu3Ir4Sn13 intermetallic. Single crystals of Eu3Ir4Sn13 were synthesized using a Sn self-flux technique. X-rays powder diffraction shows that this compound crystallizes with the cubic Yb3Rh4Sn13-type structure, space group Pm-3n, which has 40 atoms per unit cell. The Eu ions were found to be divalent and order antiferromagnetically at TN = 11 K. An additional high-temperature anomaly at T* ∼ 50 K is observed in the electrical resistivity and heat capacity data, while it is not obviously present in the magnetic susceptibility. Within the ordered state, a metamagnetic transition is observed at T = 2 K and Hm ≈ 2.7 T when magnetic field is applied along the [1 0 0] direction. The evolution of TN and T* was investigated by electrical resistivity under hydrostatic pressure conditions. We have also carried out electron spin resonance (ESR), and X-ray absorption near edge spectroscopy (XANES) measurements. The role of subtle Eu2 + valence fluctuations and the magnetic correlations in the physical properties of this compound are discussed. © 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.|
