Title: Analysis Of Recycled Paper Physical Properties After Forced And Natural Convective Drying
Author: Vieira M.G.A.

Abstract: In paper industry, drying is an important process step as it requests high energy consumption and presents direct influence on the quality of the produced paper. The properties of recycled paper are strongly affected during drying, which depends on the conditions of the drying process. In this work, recycled cellulose pulp was dried in a convective dryer and at environment natural conditions. Physical properties of the paper (moisture content, grammage, thickness, apparent and absolute densities, porosity, stretch, tension and burst resistances) were determined and the influence of the operating conditions on the final quality of the dried paper was analyzed and compared to the paper dried at natural environmental conditions. More porous, but more resistant paper samples were produced at higher temperatures. The temperature and air velocity increase reduces the drying time and increases the drying rates. However, the overall quality of the paper is poor in conditions of high air temperature and velocity, leading to a final product with less uniformity and overdried surface.
