|Title:||Native Fluorescence As A Minimally Invasive Method For Diagnosis Of Oral Mucosa Alterations|
|Abstract:||Native fluorescence of biological tissues depends on their biochemical composition and histomorphological characteristics. The oral mucosa is easily exposed to traumatisms. Also, habits such as smoking and alcoholism raise the risk for dysplasias and neoplasias, increasing the interest of the scientific community regarding the incidence and early diagnosis of oral cancer. When human tissue components such as collagen and elastic fibers, flavins and certain proteins are excited by ultraviolet radiation they become strongly fluorescent and present their native fluorescence in the 450 to 500 nm regions (blue-green). When any constitutional tissue alterations occur, pathological or otherwise, the Native fluorescence may be modified. This optical phenomenon is being considered a very sensible and reliable method for early diagnosis of oral cavity alterations. © 2006 by MEDIMOND Sri.|
