|Abstract:||This work analyzed temper embrittlement susceptibility by means of room temperature behaviour of heat affected zone (HAZ) of 21/4Cr-1Mo steel welded joints. The evaluation was made by CTOD m toughness parameter in welded joints produced with double bevel, at coarse grain (CGHAZ) and fine grain heat affected zone (FGHAZ). Metalographic examination was made before and after CTOD m tests to localize fatigue crack at CGHAZ or FGHAZ. The embrittlement simulation was gotten by "Step Cooling". An efficacy improvement in this treatment was gotten using tensile stress associated with it. Hardness reduction and microstructural analysis of carbide coarsening proved that the use of stress accelerated the embrittlement. No significant fracture toughness changes at HAZ were observed after embrittlement simulations. Fracture mechanism after simulation was microvoids coalescence. HAZ showed low susceptibility to temper embrittlement because of its low level of impurities content.|
