Title: Black Box Model For Thulium Doped Fiber Amplifiers

Abstract: Black Box Model (BBM) for thulium doped fiber amplifiers (TDFA) modeled as a three-level homogeneously broadened system is discussed. An experimental validation of the model in a TDFA pumped at 1050 nm is also proposed. BBM for EDFA assumes a two-level homogeneously broadened system and uses two measured spectral gain curves. The model uses a similar approach to characterize the amplifiers's noise, considering the ASE (Amplified Spontaneous Emission) output as amplification of an equivalent input noise spectral density.
