|Abstract:||Structural parameters as grain size, dendritic and cellular spacings, segregated products, eventual porosities and others phases are strongly influenced by the thermal behavior during solidification. Several works have been developed to quantify primary and secondary dendritic spacings for steady-state heat flow conditions. However, is very rare in the literature studies on tertiary dendritic spacings. They can exercise a strong influence in final properties. The present work, has as main objective to present an experimental study that correlate thermal parameters such as: solidification rate, temperature gradient and cooling rate with tertiary dendritic spacings, for solidification under in unsteady-state heat flow conditions. A vertical water cooled unidirectional solidification apparatus, two thermal contact conditions at the metal/molde interface, and three Sn-Pb alloys (Sn 5wt%, 15wt% e 30wt%Pb) have been used in the experiments.|
