Title: Spectral Evolution Of A Two-channel Wdm System In The Presence Of Modulation Instability

Abstract: WDM optical communication systems operating in the anomalous dispersion region are shown to exhibit enhanced spectral broadening due to power phase-matched pumping of generated four-wave mixing spectral sidebands. In this regime, strong signal power modulation along the fiber takes place. We also show that nonzero dispersion-shifted fibers successfully overcome these problems. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
