Title: Power Modulation Due To Modulation Instability Effects In Wdm Optical Communication Systems

Abstract: Modulation instability (MI) effects are analyzed in the context of WDM optical communication systems. We show how the interplay between four-wave mixing and modulation instability results in a modulation of the channel power as a function of the channel spacing as well as the propagated distance. This modulation can cause severe power penalties. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
