Title: Novel Technique For Fast X Growth In Synthetic Quartz

Abstract: To investigate the healing velocity of V-shaped cut made symmetrically to one of the X-axis of quartz crystals as a function of cutting angles, with the vertex of cut directed toward to -X direction [1120], several natural quartz Z-plate seed with cut angles of 10°, 20°, 40° and 70° were chosen and grown in a same run of standardized conditions of commercial synthetic quartz growth process. Characterization study was conducted by a double crystal X-ray topography. As a result, three new and distinct growth regions were observed and, no misalignment was detected. Furthermore, even though the growth direction from the vertex was the same for all synthetic quartz crystals, the healing velocity of V-shaped cut region depends on the cutting angle. In the present work, the fastest growth velocity was found for cutting angle of 40° and the growth velocity was estimated to be about 0.23 mm/day (+X-direction, [1120]).
