Abstract: This study evaluated the efficacy and tolerability of aceclofenac and diclofenac in osteoarthritis patients. The design of study was comparative, randomized and open trial. 106 patients with esteoarthritis were evaluated, according diagnostics criteria by Altman et allii. The drugs were administred P.O. 100 mg of aceclofenac 2 bid and 50 mg of diclofenac 3 tid. The evaluation were realized in 7th, 14th and 28th day. The parameters utilized were: - analogic scale of pain, and index of morning stifiness, functional capacity and global evaluation by research and patient. The tolerability also was go by researchs, according patient's informations. All the values obtained were submitted to statistical analisys. The results show that both aceclofenac and diclofenac in follow-up of 28 days was similar in efficacy and the aceclofenac, new antiinflammatory drug was effective in osteoarthritis treatment, and had lower side-effects incidence in gastrintestinal system, when compared with diclofenac.
