Abstract: The performance characteristics of three-phase squirrel-cage induction motors determination is important for economic feasibility studies for motor substitution due to energy conservation and maintenance subjects. The national and international motor standards present procedures to determine that performance characteristics. However they are based on laboratory tests using special equipments hard to be moved to the site and rarely available in shops and workshops, being in general very expensive and time-consumption tests. This paper presents an alternative to the existing procedures. The proposed method is based on the equivalent circuit parameters estimation that is done through the generation of pseudo-random values and simultaneous solution of the equivalent circuit equations for each operation condition. The validity of the method was tested in a range of 94 different motors with rated power between 3 and 2250 cv.
