|Title:||Acute Non-compressive Myelopathy [mielopatias Agudas Não Compressivas]|
|Abstract:||Acute myelopathies are neurological emergencies. Since they are relatively rare, early diagnosis is often difficult and can lead to delay in starting treatment. We reviewed literature to describe the main characteristics of the most common etiologies of non-compressive myelopathy: 1) inflammatory myelopathy (demyelinating, auto-immune and parainfectious diseases); 2) delayed radiation myelopathy; 3) vascular myelopathy, and 4) vitamin B12 deficiency. We suggest using an algorithm to help in the initial approach of these patients and further etiological investigation. Copyrigth © Sociedad Iberoamericana de Información Cientifica (SIIC), 2010.|
