A abordagem etimológica, inclusive, possibilitou ampliar a compreensão do território.

Abstract: The present thesis pursues the analyses of the presence of Azorians, Africans, and German people around the Caminho Cubatão (Cubatão Path), in the first half of the XIX century. In this regard, it seeks to identify the mechanisms that linked said characters to the Caminho Cubatão, an important roadway to the then-province of São Paulo in channeling its harvests. On the borders of this communication channel, the immigrants developed actions, either on a larger or smaller scale, that resonate in a decisive way in the territory. Understanding these procedures allows the highlighting of the main features of each group, interrelations, and conflicts. The research is based, in its majority, on documents under the custody of the Public Archive of the State of São Paulo (Arquivo Público do Estado de São Paulo), and the Legislative Assembly of the State of São Paulo (Assembleia Legislativa do Estado de São Paulo). Therefore, the etymological approach enables the comprehension of the territory. Furthermore, it intends to check some questions that recur, such as which immigrants better adapted to the setting, which social tools they had, and if they were ostentatiously used as governmental advertising. To comprehend this historic period of the Cubatão region sheds light on the region builders, and, hence, encourages the rise of new investigation lines
