Abstract: The late Carboniferous is marked by a series of changes that lead to the transition from an Icehouse-Greenhouse, which is responsible for the eustatic rise of the oceans, generating a series of marine transgressions in continental environments. The establishment of epicontinental seas led to the dispersion and establishment of carbonate systems in northern South America, with the most internal record of this marine incursion being the carbonate-siliciclastic deposits of the Piauí Formation, which harbors a diverse fauna preserved in the skeletal concentrations quarries. These concentrations have been studied for more than 20 years, on an individual basis. In the present dissertation, 4 (four) deposits are studied, and an environmental model is proposed based on the taphonomic analysis and proposition of taphofacies, according to differences in the processes undergone by such skeletal remnants. These deposits were grouped into two taphofacies, with taphofacies 1 corresponding to a marginal environment of the carbonate platform, dominated by mollusks: bivalves and Gastrópodes, where elements with intense fragmentation and disarticulated elements are observed, characterizing a high-energy episodic event. While the taphofacies 2, proposed here, is the central portion of the platform, with concentrations arranged in pavements Braquiópode-dominated and layers that suffer an increase in diversity from the base to the top, also showing the effects of shallowing cycles and faunal succession at different levels of the deposits. The present study also lists taphonomic and faunistic similarities with deposits of the same age in the Amazon Basin, making the relationships between these two systems and their connections even clearer
