Abstract: This study aims to understand how scientific divulgation means at the Octávio Vecchi Forest Museum. a space linked to a public research and conservation institution in the state of São Paulo and opened in 1931 with the aim of divulgating the science of silviculture. Using Discourse Analysis, associated with the History of Ideas, we analyzed texts from the institution's archives from the 1930s and 1940s. The Museum appears in the transition between the patrimonialist model of public administration, and the new bureaucratic model, proposed in the Vargas Era. Our corpus is marked by regularities that evoke tensions such as the dichotomy between public and private interests and also the silencing of previous administrations. All this associated with colonization and the hyperbolic discourse of institutions reverberates in the discourse of science. Silviculture works by the effects of the founding discourse as a new science in Brazil. The imagery produced about the silviculture scientists is marked by colonialism, immigration and nationalism. Black and indigenous people, as well as the practices of traditional populations, does not appear in our corpus as part of the science discourse. The figure of the scientist refers to the white man. The corpus produces the effect that Brazilian citizenship is only possible through foreign science. The discursive functioning of and on silviculture refers to utilitarianism and produces a dichotomy effect between the value of forests for the community (environmental services) and its utility for the individual (economic, for exploitation). Regularities such as the military and religious discourses appears in the discourse on silviculture, producing an effect of natural order in relation to hierarchical models, in which scientist and science are shown as authorities. Scientific articles and divulgation texts are sometimes represented in different hierarchical positions, sometimes in equality. The effect of legitimacy in the divulgation texts, as well as in objects and works of art, is due to the presence of the scientist in the gesture of authorship. The figure of the scientific divulgator, when not linked to that of the scientist, appears in our corpus as a propagandist and works as a synonym for capitalist. The interlocutors are divided according to their social positions and the scientific divulgation of silviculture textualizes on different platforms to reach these diverse audiences. In the relationship with the small farmer, scientific divulgation works as a simplification of scientific discourse, meeting the government's demand for universal public services. Silviculture represents a tool for suppressing the information deficit and entering the market for effective citizenship
