Abstract: The objective of this work is to study the construction of the Plate Tectonics Theory through the marine exploration processes that occurred between the 1940s and the end of the 1960s, discussing it through the laboratory practices of the research vessels used in marine expeditions, by the mains of scientific articles published by the acting scientists. This discussion is methodologically grounded in some aspects of Bruno Latour's Theory-Network theory and also of other discussions about studies in sociology of science in the 1980s. Thus, through books and documentary articles on the History of Plate Tectonics, the doors of laboratories are open to the discussion of scientific doing and the production of their images. A conceptual analysis across the historicity of scientific practices - going through the conceptual transformations about the understanding and functioning of the terrestrial dynamics - is realized from the landmark event of the Lisbon Earthquake of 1755 until the advent of Plate Tectonics Theory by an analysis discursive and imagery. For the latter, Lorraine Daston's concept of image objectivity and analysis of images in Rudwick's Geosciences will be used. The intention is to retake a history of the sciences not cloistered, disconnected from the past, but to critically address the fact that transdisciplinary discussions can occur through this subject and can add to both the layman and the scientist a critical context about the scientific practices within of Earth Sciences. Such importance is due to the fact that it is an area directly linked to the earth resources and it dialogues directly with the wide exploitation and scarcity of the same, leading to consequences, many times, irreversible
