Abstract: Literature in English language classes has historically been ignored to the detriment of a language teaching based on an instrumental, compartmentalized and hegemonic view of language (AMORIN, SILVA, 2019), with no room for the construction of a linguistic education proposal based on the Pedagogy of Multiliteracies, but also on criticality and on the true experience of students with language (MAGNANI, 2018), since it is not very welcoming for new studies and for recognition about teaching and learning (DALVI, 2013; REZENDE, 2013; JOVER-FALEIROS, 2013). In this educational context, there is no space for the treatment of a lautor (CHARTIER, 1997; ROJO, 2013) being, who beyond Reading literary texts, thinks about them as subjects presented in this dialogical meeting which is called literary reading (SAMPAIO, 2019), confronting his/her ideas and (re)signifying the world from his/her transformed vision (LERNER, 2002; LAJOLO, 2008; FREIRE, 2014). These meanings are also critic and made possible by the dialogue with the Other (BAKHTIN, 2010). Thus, the present research defends literary literacy (PAULINO, 2001; PAULINO, COSSON, 2009; PAULINO, GRIJÓ, 2005; COSSON, 2016; 2018) as a pedagogical perspective that promotes a holistic and transgressive language education in High School, a cycle in which the adolescent’s critical sense needs to be enhanced, and a possible path for the formation of critical, responsible citizens, capable of read Society and acting actively to break prejudices, marginalization and social injustices. After analyzing the National official documents related to English language teaching, as well as the theoretical framework of Applied Linguistics, we will propose a didactic unit that will contemplate this practice that we defend here
