Abstract: The purpose of this study is to analyze, from their statements, the relation that four interviewed teachers establish between their pedagogical practices as Portuguese Language teachers, mainly in Elementary School, and their formative instances. The teachers were indicated for the interview by former Study Advisors of the Pro-Literacy and National Pact for Literacy in the Right Age (PNAIC, in Portuguese), Continuing Teacher Education programs, in which I took the role of instructor between 2012 and 2014. Assuming the theoretical-methodological perspective of Oral History, the interviews are conceived as production of narratives, which result from a double work: both memory, to confer intelligibility to the past, and language, to organize, by the selection and exclusion of facts, testimonies about their own experiences. In addition, interviews are considered, from this perspective, as a moment of co-authored data production: researcher and interviewee, at all times, interfere directly and indirectly in one another's statements, from the social places they occupy. Thereby, the dialogical conception of language, from Bakhtin, is also assumed, both in the planning and realization of the interviews and in the analysis of the generated data. Some considerations that may be pointed out are that, from the analyzed statements, the continuous formation and the own practice (also understood as experience) are seen as privileged instances of formation by the teachers, as well as, with less emphasis, the experiences as students in the childhood. From the interview questions, some relations between theory and practice are suggested in the analyzed statements: the theoretical character of the initial formation in Educaction courses is inquired and it is indicated that it is the practice, with its challenges and concrete demands, the great responsible for the search for explanations and overcoming everyday difficulties, also through participation in continuing education and postgraduate courses. Thus, there are suggestions for overcoming the traditional dichotomy and hierarchy between theory and practice, such as the reformulation of the catalogs of Education courses, emphasizing going to schools from the beginning of graduation and not only in the internship subjects; and the creation of long-term continuing education initiatives that serve as a follow-up to the teaching performance
